Glow Worm species - Photuris

Glow Worm species - Photuris
Athens (Shady Lake Rec. Area), Polk County, Arkansas, USA
September 28, 2007
Firefly larvae. There were lots of them glowing on the lawn by the lake. Any idea what species?

glow worm
I went out to take out the trashand saw this small glowing in the thick grass and as I picked it up thinking maybe one of my sons toys or at least a peice of one it moved! I did not know that glow worms were in my area. I am amazed...

Photuris, for sure
Photuris, for sure

firefly larva-Photuris
This one looks like a Photuris larva of some sort. They are much wider and "substantial" than Pyractomena. Also their ventral side looks quite different. Habitat sounds perfect for many firefly species. Lynn

Genus?
Habitat suggests a couple genera, at least! Try Pyractomena for starters....
