Lebia viridis

Lebia viridis
Florida Canyon, Santa Rita Mountains, Pima County, Arizona, USA
July 8, 2016
Size: Length 6 mm.
Sent to and identified by Peter W. Messer.

Oak-Juniper Woodland.
Elevation 4,3000. ft.

Lebia viridis var. subopaca Schaeffer
Lebia viridis var. subopaca Schaeffer based on my examination of this specimen that Charles Melton sent me. Compared to typical L. viridis, this variety from Huachuca Mts. area of Arizona is constantly larger (ABL 5 mm), dorsum dark dull bluish, and with much stronger wrinkles atop head and pronotum. These constant characters found in a small region support elevating variety to subspecies or species rank in my opinion.
