Dicaelus laevipennis

Dicaelus laevipennis
Pinery Canyon, Chiricahuas, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
April 9, 2018
Under rock in burned ponderosa pine forest.

My AZ entries have been moved
to Dicaelus suffusus. What's the difference?

See key to Dicaelus spp. by GE Ball (1959) for details
in his "A Taxonomic Study of the North American Licinini ..." D. suffuse is shorter and narrower (max width < 7 mm) among other subtle clues.

Yes, subtle is true
I am still trying to find out what made the identifier of my images so certain that he moved them. I got no answer yet. My specimens are at the UAIC and may have been reviewed by Kip by now. Time to pay them a visit

Moved tentatively to Dicaelus laevipennis
Moved from Beetles.
