Metallic Wood Borer Beetle - Dicerca? - Texania campestris

Metallic Wood Borer Beetle - Dicerca? - Texania campestris
Bullitt County, Kentucky, USA
April 10, 2018
This guy was hanging out on our front door frame. Hope he wasn't eating it. Mixed hardwood forest so lots of potential host trees in the area. More pictures coming - Dicerca?

Texania campestris
Texania campestris. The large size and serrate elytral margins are distinctive. Very cool. My experience in Maryland and West Virginia is that adults of this species don't emerge until June or July. However I see lots of other BugGuide records from April. The larvae feed on already dead hardwood trees so don't worry about any damage as you questioned. Nice photos - thank you for posting!

uggh...I knew not to rule-out Texania
thanks, Frank
