Backyard Dragonfly - Sympetrum corruptum

Backyard Dragonfly - Sympetrum corruptum
Hayward, Alameda County, California, USA
October 8, 2007
Size: about 2 inches long
We have 2 of these, hanging out on the branch of a tree for the past hour and a half. I'm not sure if it is a dragonfly becuase it's head seems to be a different shape then the pictures I am finding. Can you identify this.

Backyard Dragonfly
Nice shot! I'm just a novice at ID, but I think it could be a Variegated Meadowhawk, Sympetrum corruptum.

I concur! I've seen many in C
