Small-eyed Sphinx - Paonias myops

Small-eyed Sphinx - Paonias myops
Maplesville, Chilton County, Alabama, USA
April 29, 2018
This was a stunning multicolored sphinx moth. His thorax had one orange stripe down the middle with 2-3 more lavender stripes on each side of that. His wingspan was about 5.0 cm. He looked thick and held his body up off the sheet. He had one dark blue band across the top of his multi-segmented orange abdomen. He had two wide black vertical stripes on each forewing that extended to the outer margin. He had a black triangle at the apices. His PM(?) line was wavy and appeared to be in layers; three layers of dark brown and two layers of lavender.
