White-spotted sable moth

White-spotted sable moth
Mason Farm Biological Reserve, Orange County, North Carolina, USA
April 29, 2018

The moth is pretty beat up and ragged
It is also not a White-spotted Sable, but rather Alypia octomaculata - Eight-spotted Forester and we already have eight of those from North Carolina in the guide. We're not sure why it was frassed, but we would have to guess that it is that the wings are all beat up and ragged. But don't feel bad, we all have some of our images frassed from time to time. Just keep posting. We love to see what's out there in NC.

Well, thank you for telling me it was not the white-spotted sable. I am not an entomologist and spent quite a bit of time trying to figure this one out and finally ended up with white-spotted sable. At least now I can correct this in my own records and I appreciate that!

May I ask why this was frassed?
