Ceriana tridens? - Ceriana tridens - male - female

Ceriana tridens? - Ceriana tridens - Male Female
Santa Clara County, California, USA
May 6, 2018
Possible Ceriana tridens pair mating on native coffeeberry bush in urban garden.

Interesting...is the male missing its left antenna?
Or is it somehow holding its left antenna skewed over to the right...in line of sight here with its right antenna? (I wouldn't have thought their antennae were that flexible.)

If it's actually missing its left antenna, this would be the first field photo of a cerioidine I've seen in that condition. (I have seen lots of old pinned museum specimens with an antenna or two knocked off by accident, but the many "in-the-wild" I've seen have had both antennae intact.)

[Maybe he is somehow angling the left antenna over towards the right...he doesn't look very "worn" otherwise.]

PS: I've found coffeeberry in bloom can be surprisingly attractive to large numbers of insects, despite the small size of its flowers!
