Pogonomyrmex sp. - Pogonomyrmex - Female
Topanga State Park, on Musch Trail, Los Angeles County, California, USA
April 29, 2018
Size: N/A
They like seeds, I witnessed them collecting seeds from a more flowery plant and what looked like wild rye. They went into what looked like a stinging position with the gaster under their body when threatened. The trail nesting site was relatively high up, not too high so I don't think it's mountain pogo, and was more sandy.

Moved from Ants.

Cropped and moved to Formicidae for expert attention
