Oecanthus californicus - male

Oecanthus californicus - Male
Cochise Stronghold, Dragoons, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
April 29, 2018
A single male found calling at night from mesquite (continuous trilling). No others heard or seen. I was very surprised to find an adult tree cricket so early in the year. My guess on this guy is a very old californicus male.

Moved
Specimen sent to Nancy Collins, who confirmed O. californicus

Moved from Varicornis Group.

The VERY wide wings point to a species....
in the varicornis group. Certainly could be O. californicus, but can't rule out O. texensis either.
