Apioninae - Trichapion

Apioninae - Trichapion
Nogales, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA
April 26, 2018
Size: 1.7 mm
Coordinates: 31.379, -110.942
Collected by J. T. Botz from an unknown, mat-forming leguminous plant (possibly some kind of vetch). I couldn't find any photos in BG of any specimen with large white patches of scales like this. There's a dried glob of nectar or something stuck to the underside of the rostrum.

Moved
Moved from Pear-shaped Weevils.

Dr. Bob Anderson: "Near Trichapion tenuirostrum... It has a similar scale pattern although not nearly as well-defined as this one. Kissinger records it from Petalostemum. There is at least one record from Santa Cruz County. Kissinger does acknowledge that it could be a complex of species."
