Mushroom globular springtail - Ptenothrix atra

Mushroom globular springtail - Ptenothrix atra
Hollis, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
October 10, 2007
Size: probably 1.5 mm or less
Found several in a range of hues on the undersides of polypore mushroom caps in mixed woods. I think they are all the same species despite their great variation in color. This one is the darkest individual. To see others, click here and here.

Moved
Moved from Dicyrtoma fusca.

Ptenothrix atra
This colour variant looks similar to Dicyrtoma fusca.
But the white 4th antennal segment clearly separates it from Dicyrtoma.

Excellent!
Thank you, Frans.
