Immature insect on Gulf muhly grass - Hysteroneura setariae

Immature insect on Gulf muhly grass - Hysteroneura setariae
Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
September 30, 2009
Macro shot of immature insect on flowering native prairie grass (Muhlenbergia capillaris). This is my first post and I had to resize the image. I may have duplicated request.

Moved
Moved from Aphids.

Did not realize this species did not have guide page so I have created one. Please let me know if you see any pictures of similar specimens, we can move them to the species page.

Hysteroneura setariae?
A dark aphid on grass with features similar to an Aphis and a conspicuously light cauda is usually Hysteroneura setariae

Cropped and moved to Aphididae for expert attention
Moved from ID Request.

It's an aphid of some kind. Many are wingless, so this is not necessarily an immature. I don't know how much further the ID can be taken, but let's see what the experts have to say.

Welcome to BugGuide!

Aphid - thank you!
Thanks for the prompt reply. It helps knowing it is an aphid. I had no idea where to begin.
