parasitoid wasps emerged from smooth carrion flower berries

parasitoid wasps emerged from smooth carrion flower berries
Lake Meyer Park, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
May 12, 2018
Size: 2-3mm
I collected several dried-out smooth carrion flower (Smilax herbacea) berries on 4/25/18 that were still left over from last winter. I noticed that several tiny wasps had emerged by 5/10/18 and I photographed these specimens today. I'm curious as to whether there is a parasitic wasp that has smooth carrion flower berries as its host.

Braconinae
Thanks Aaron!

Braconinaeā€¦
These braconid wasps are predominantly external parasites of concealed larvae of Lepidoptera and Coleoptera.

See reference here.

braconid wasps
Thanks Ross! So there must have been moth or beetle larvae hiding and feeding inside those berries last fall before the wasps found them. I will keep the berries around for a while and see if any moths or beetles survived to emerge this spring.
