Looks like a nymph
From nuances of the terminalia here, I believe this is still a pre-adult instar (perhaps the final instar). In particular, it seems the right cercus and intra-dextral process are still united within their nymphal sheath (see here for explanation of terminology).

Only nymphs appear early in the season (Timema have an annual life cycle)...but latter in the season (exactly when depending on latitude, altitude, and habitat) both adults and nymphs are often out at the same time in Timema. At any rate, even if adults aren't out yet in the locale where you found this guy...they should be soon (e.g. within a week or so).
