globular springtail? - Bourletiella hortensis

globular springtail? - Bourletiella hortensis
Poverty Island, Harford County, Maryland, USA
May 11, 2018
Size: approx 1 mm
About the size of a poppy seed, I noticed scores of these atop a dropcloth that had been laid under a sheet set up to attract moths via MV lamp. The drop cloth was on a coarse gravel driveway and only a few feet from a freshly mowed grass/weed area, so it uncertain which of those two habitats was that of these springtails. I saw one of them jump and land about 3 inches away -- impressive for such a tiny creature.
