Orange checkered moth - Idia majoralis

Orange checkered moth - Idia majoralis
Maplesville, Chilton County, Alabama, USA
May 1, 2018
This was an orange checkered moth. His wingspan was 2.5 - 3.0 cm. He had two elongated vertical ovals coming down from his basalar area on each forewing (basal line?). He had three small brown notches around the costa corresponding with vague AM, median, and PM lines. He had a larger darker brown notch on the costa that corresponded with the subterminal line. The ST line took an immediate jagged dive down to form a wide blunt end before it came back up and continued in a jagged fashion. This blunt end almost looked squared off, but was slightly concave. His terminal line was a series of long brown dashes.
