Which sulphur? - Colias eurytheme
Antelope Island, Davis County, Utah, USA
October 14, 2007
Quite a few of these were flying around the island. Any butterfly experts out there?

Colias eurytheme
I learned it as the Alfalfa Butterfly, but I think they're calling it the Orange Sulphur or something like that now. Very similar to C. philodice, but generally larger with wings more orange above, wider dark margin, and underside usually more "smooth" looking. Sometimes experts even have trouble with them, but this one looks like a fairly typical looking female C. eurytheme, thought it looks like it might be leaning toward the smaller yellower "cool season" expression. C. eurytheme is more likely to be seen out in wild dry habitats in the west than is C. philodice, but both are pretty common.

Thank you so much!
I appreciate your time and information.
