A. austerella versus oreasella
The moths in all of the photos on this page are
A. oreasella
. this was identified previously as
A. austerella
as the result of a minor mixup. True
A. austerella
is pretty dissimilar from
A. oreasella
in appearance;
A. austerella
is illustrated in Busck's 1907 paper, but not too many people have ready access to it. An image of
A. austerella
, along with
A. oreasella
, can be seen
here
. The citation for Busck's paper also is given there.

why not A. oreasella?
I looked at photos of
Argyresthia oreasella
(Cherry Shoot Borer) here: [
1
,
2
,
3
] and photos of
A. austerella
here: [
1
,
2
] but didn't notice any obvious differences.
Do you know what distinguishes these two species?
