Puzzled - Neotridactylus apicialis

Puzzled - Neotridactylus apicialis
Desoto, Dallas County, Texas, USA
May 19, 2018
Size: 9.5mm
This came to a porch light. Without my reading glasses, I thought it would turn out to be some kind of treehopper -- it was a very energetic jumper! Some insects, like people, photograph well. This was not one of them! Now I'm just puzzled. Surely it must be some kind of cricket, but I don't really know what I'm looking at -- hence, the many poor images. Is that an ovipositor or wings? And those cerci! And red "knees!" It doesn't look like any of the mole crickets in the Guide....I'm at a loss!

The identifying character to genus for these guys is on the hind tibia/tarsus, but most live images do not show this since tridactylids tend to keep their hind legs folded up in life. You captured it well here (especially in the 3rd image). N. apicialis is the only species of the genus that should be fully winged and in TX

I think I messed up your comment...
After Ken weighed in I went ahead and deleted some of the images (I'm sensitive to the discussion regarding frassing and am by nature a "thrower" rather than a "keeper"!) Hope I didn't delete the one you were talking about!

it is now...
the second image :)

Good!
