Fly female inserting eggs - Dasiops - Female

Several of these flies were laying eggs into the stem of a Nootka Lupine. Of interest I was also filming a crab spider nearby and it grabbed one of these flies and rejected it.

"Most probably Dasiops, which have blade-like ovipositors for piercing plant stems" says Iain MacGowan on diptera.info.
