Ebony Jewelwing (Calopteryx maculata) possible immature male?? - Calopteryx
Greenville, Montcalm County, Michigan, USA
May 25, 2018
Ebony Jewelwings are common here, but mocha brown eyes and bronzish wings without white pterostigma confuse me. Photo taken from Flat River, Greenville,MI; a clear sand bottom shallow stream with occasional rocky areas; photo from walking path low shrub area near river.

Freshly emerged
This specimen is freshly emerged. It is for this reason that the eyes are brown and wings are still very pale. We can even notice that the wings are still slightly soft.

It is probably Calopteryx maculata, but the angle is a little tricky to be sure at 100%.

Calopteryx maculata
Roxanne, thanks so much for the info...sorry for oblique photo angle, it was the best of several. I had seen the brown eyes previously, but never knew of that condition in freshly emerged individuals. I truly appreciate your response and effort. Jim
