Brown and yellow moth - Euclea nanina

Brown and yellow moth - Euclea nanina
Maplesville, Chilton County, Alabama, USA
May 16, 2018
This is a dark brown slug type moth with four very distinctive bright yellow patches. The two larger patches are in the median area. When looking at the patch in the lateral view with the moth's head to the right, it seems to be in the shape of a polygon with four unequal sides with a small tongue curling out from the southwest corner, with the short side of the polygon oriented towards the head. Just to the left of the patch is a small triangular area that is darker on the inside with a lighter and more saturated maroon on the outside. The smaller patch below it in the postmedial area is somewhat curved on the left side and has a small "fin" on the right. Below this patch is a small yellow dot. Both patches have edges that appear to be frayed. Between them, there is a small black dot. The size, position, and shape of the patches seems to match pretty well with 4697.1 – Euclea nanina – Nanina Oak-Slug Moth, especially Gretchen Grammer's photo on MPG and Ken Child's photo on BugGuide (Photo#1093876).
