Size: 12 mm
I have 3 from the same region (1:Elytra all brown with dark edges. 2:Elytra all black. 3:Elytra brown center with large dark edges and central edges).

- Pronotal disk is rounded, not flattened. Ring flash makes it look depressed.
- Eyes entire.
- Tibial spurs subterminal a little, but not enough to warrant that designation in Arnett couplet 8 (1) (see Stenocorus).

- No pronotal tubercles like Piodes.
- Antenna not as stout & short as Piodes.

- Procoxa: Open behind, not meeting with procoxal process which narrows to nothing.
- Procoxa: The external shape of the opening is angular pointing to the side.

Moved from Oberea.

Good grief. I didn't even realize the images were tagged. Sorry for the inadvertent move. Thanks, Blaine.

Oops, an accidental group tagging?

Brachysomida californica
Looks more like B. californica to me. Compare with photos of Piodes from the New World Cerambycidae Catalog: https://apps2.cdfa.ca.gov/publicApps/plant/bycidDB/wdetails.asp?id=7316&w=n. Not sure about the terminal versus subterminal spurs, but yours look pretty close to the apex even though they are in an emargination. Also, the antennal characters point to Brachysomida instead. For Piodes, Short, stout and starting with 3rd segment, all nearly subequal.
