Portrait of a Ground Beetle - Poecilus lucublandus

Portrait of a Ground Beetle - Poecilus lucublandus
Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
April 17, 2005
Size: ~12 mm
Found under a paver stone in our garden. The cool morning light created a nice iridescence on it's carapace, so I shot this without a flash (a small feat with a handheld macro lens).

Poecilus lucublandus
Tony-

This is a quite distinctive member of the tribe Pterostichini, Poecilus lucublandus. There are several greenish metallic Poecilus, but P. lucublandus is the only one with concave side-margins of the pronotum. A beautiful carabid!

Thanks Matt!
Very cool to get a full ID on this one:)
