pupa case and fly i.d. - Coenomyia ferruginea

pupa case and fly i.d. - Coenomyia ferruginea
Vershire, Orange County, Vermont, USA
May 30, 2018
This fly and the pupa case were found in close proximity in a greenhouse. Pupa case was mostly buried in soil and was extracted by person who discovered it.

Moved from ID Request.

I can't say for sure whether or not the puparium belongs to the fly. Perhaps others will know.

Xylophagid pupa
Just wanted to point out that this is a naked pupa, not a puparium (which would be the pupa surround by the hardened larval skin).

A sloppy characterization on my part.
Thanks for the correction.
