Guess which beetle family (Eucinetidae?) - Nycteus testaceus Amherst, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA October 13, 2007 Size: about 3 mm
You can see the large plate-like metacoxae that (I suppose) give rise to the common name, Plate-thigh Beetles. I never knew the basis for the common name till seeing this feature. The hind femur withdraws into a space beneath the metacoxae as you can see.
