25 spp. in our area, 35 in the New World, ~80 total(1)

Range

all major continents except Australia; in our area, western, by far most diverse in sw. US (one sp. reaches east to MI, 3 spp. range into Canada)(1)

Habitat

nearly always collected in arid areas, usually associated with sand deposits

Remarks

collected almost exclusively at lights
