Det. Cameron Ramsey

Norman Woodley
confirms, being quoted in
Requests forum
as commenting, "I think Cameron Ramsey's ID is correct. I like hispines, and have collected one or two of this species. It is pretty scarce. Nice add to Bug Guide!".
Also, North American locality

, unicolorous dorsum

, mesofemur not serrate on inner margin, and pronotum without basal impression

key it to this species.

Thank you Edward!
I deleted the page request from the forums without realizing that you had a link going to the page request! I've been instructed by several BG editors to delete my page requests once the new pages have been created. I guess this avoids clutter?!

Authoritative det. needs to be retained
The Requests post is no longer critical since I requote Dr. Woodly here. If you have an authoritative determination of species, such as is the case here, that is often decisive in taxon placement. To avoid doubts in the future, you should never delete reference to that determination. The best place to put it is on the image page itself, either in comments or remarks. That's why I requoted here.

You make perfect sense
but this is the first time I hear about your approach. Is there a written policy somewhere on BG about this subject? Otherwise the contributors are continuously following disjointed directions from the editors.

Universal practice
Taxon placement on BG is very often based on the authority of the one making the determination. As a non-authority, I must often make my case in much more detail, citing keys and such, as I do here. There is no specific rule on BG which states that records of such determination should be retained. The issue transcends that. It is standard practice in all fields where evidence plays a role in deciding a course of action. The purpose is to mitigate doubts in the future.

I'd like to leave it at that
but what is obvious to some might not be so clear-cut to others. Let me emphasize I agree with everything you said. However, up to now, several editors have specifically asked me to delete my page requests immediately after the creation of the new pages. You are the first editor who mentions the importance of leaving authoritative comments in the requests. As you do with your submissions, I include remarks from experts whenever I am lucky to have them. Occasionally, when I am diligent enough, I also include information from a key or other documents. We do not disagree about the importance of keeping authoritative quotes, but it seems that we fail to see eye-to-eye about having specific written guidelines on important subjects. In other words, my logic might not be as rational as someone else's.

Issue elevated
I have reviewed recent page requests, and there is indeed too much potential for the loss of valuable identifying information in general. I have posted suggestions for
Preventing ID information loss in Page Requests forum
in the Problems and Suggestions forum.

Excellent!
I am interested in the reactions or comments your post generates.
Actually, I'd rather not delete the new page requests because it leaves a record of who are the contributors most actively bringing new taxa into the guide. It's a sort of recognition (or bragging rights) for the efforts. Some contributors don't delete their page requests after the new pages are created giving them a bit more apparent "relevance" than those who do.
