wasp-mimic fly - Ceraturgus elizabethae

wasp-mimic fly - Ceraturgus elizabethae
Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina, USA
June 8, 2018
Initially landed on flowers with wings spread in T-shape.
Did not have time to look for halteres, but suspect this is a fly.
About the size of a paper wasp. Had a distinctive buzz
when it flew, not a wasp like sound.

Moved from Robber Flies.

The antennae are very long. I'm not sure of the gender.
Please compare: (eastern)

Yikes! I should've caught that.
I've got to learn to slow down.

Nice save. :)

Maybe a Mydas?

Sure looks like it!Thank yo
Sure looks like it!
Thank you!
But wondering now about yellow behind eyes and no yellow (that I can see) on antennae. Could this be sex-related or variation in species?
