Leptoglossus? - Leptoglossus zonatus

Leptoglossus? - Leptoglossus zonatus
Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
October 21, 2007
Size: approx 2"
I found this Leaf Footed bug on our driveway. It was still able to fly though missing one leg. I was wondering what species it is - I didn't see another image with the two spots below the head online. Also, while I was trying to get a decent photo, it touch it's tail end down and left a little puddle of something on the concrete. Any idea what it was doing? Thanks for any info you can find!

L. zonatus, I'd say
guide page here.

Just a guess, but the little puddle might be what most little puddles that come out of rear ends are - defecation? : )

That was the basic assumption
That was the basic assumption, I just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if it was a defense mechanism of some sort before feeling bad for scaring the crap out of the poor little bug. :)
