Nice shots of an interesting fly; and the wasp wings seem to strangely emanate from the fly's head in thi photo.

Ears are a bit lopsided. LOL! (Will look at it again later.)
(Written later:) This is the Palpada with the striped thorax, but usually it's a pretty grey in part.
P. albifrons looks good to me. However, I have no personal experience with these and am merely comparing it to Bug Guide images.
