Is this Palpada vinetorum, or...? Observed on a Solidago (canadensis?) sp.

Palpada furcata, I'd say
Check the thorax. There appear to be two types for Palpada, differing by species. This is the one I call "chain". The other, which is more colorful, I call "stripes" - going sideways and generally light gray and black. (Perhaps more of this on your other post. Also note that it's tough to get an ID to species for P. vine*torum.)

Ron! This does appear to resemble P. furcata as they both remind me of Eristalis tenax.
