Thanks Chris - quite a few manzanita shrubs around the area, although this one must have been hanging out on this nearby conifer I guess.

many psyllids migrate to conifers
for shelter, most commonly during the winter but some species tend to do it earlier in the year than others. Typically they return to their true hosts in the early spring to mate and complete their life cycles there.

Neophyllura sp.
An interesting one! It's somewhat intermediate-looking, so I'm not sure which species it is. This is a small genus of manzanita and madrone feeders endemic to the western US, with 5 described spp. known from California.
