Uncertain...
I am quite certain that this is not an Ancistrocerus even though I can't make an alternative suggestion (not familiar enough with the southwestern fauna). I have examined almost all the North American species of Ancistrocerus, and they all look very different. I guess we'll have to leave this one for another day... Thanks, Tom, for contributing images of such interesting species!

Arizona eumenines
Three genera come to mind but this colour pattern doesn't match my memories of twenty-odd years ago - Smeringodynerus, Dolichodynerus and Cephalodynerus. The closest match might be Smeringodynerus morelios, but I don't have specimens at hand at the moment to check.

(Extremely) red Ancistrocerus sp.
At least, this nectaring specimen is a female. But it looks almost too red to be an A. tuberculocephalus, unless there is considerable regional variation. I ignored such a Hornet-like color-pattern (especially on mesoscutum) could exist at all in this genus.

My mistake
As it took a long time, I thought connexion had failed. Is it possible to cancel when this occurs?
