This meets with characteristi
This meets with characteristics for Arizona Pleotomus nigripennis but Pleotomus pallens occurs in this state also.....so serious conflicts arise with attempt to identify.....the larvae of AZ Pn are well characterized but the larva of Pp are not, and we have no data that I'm aware of for Pp in the central or northern Texas counties. Further, Zaragosa synonymized Pn and Pp some time ago as a taxonomic species, but as a biological species, there is much to understand.... another larva, fitting the size and shape of Pleotomus, occurs in southern Texas where the whitish-beige color form of Pp is known, but it is black with yellow speckles....so this issue is currently way over our heads until more specimens and study are generated
