Walking stick - Timema - female

Walking stick - Timema - Female
Redway, Humboldt County, California, USA

Moved from Timema.

This is a female of one of the "look-alike" species: T. poppense or T. douglasi (the former is sexually reproductive, while the latter is parthenogenetic). At this point, they can't be told apart without more contextual info (i.e. rearing a nymph without males present, and seeing if she can lay eggs yielding other viable females!).

PS: Manda, do you have any idea what the interesting plant is whose leaf is shown? It's mystifying me!
