Fuzzy Bug
Looked at first like it could be a Thistledown Velvet Ant (
Dasymutilla gloriosa
), but I don't think the legs are black on the females of that species. It looks a bit wet or something, possibly making it look different than usual, so may be something else in that family like
Dasymutilla sackenii
, which is also in your area I believe.
We'll see if anyone else concurs.
