Pink Sphinx - Paonias astylus

Pink Sphinx - Paonias astylus
Chilton County, Alabama, USA
June 21, 2018
This sphinx-like moth was pink around his head and basal area. He had a brown orbicular spot on each side of his thorax. His forewings were otherwise reddish brown. Just before the apices, he had a three-layer smudge of white, brown, and white. The apices themselves had a bright yellow streak. His pink subterminal line started very thin at the apices, running below the yellow streak, and broadened as it continued to the anal angle where it met another bright yellow patch. The inner margin was shaded black.
