Size: .5" maybe slightly larger
These little guys hover. They are particularly fond of my Lamb's Ears flowers.

Looks like a Wool-carder bee.
Looks like a Wool-carder bee. Maybe Anthidium manicatum, but you'll definitely want to wait for more expert help.
