Size: 2 - 3 mm est.
This gnat presumably matured in a collecting container that had some mushroom scraps in it that were loaded with several hundred spring*tails and some tiny r*ove beet*les. The mushrooms were collected in a mixed woods area.

I think this actually
night be a Chironomid. I often see them, but have never managed to get a decent photo.
