patch-wing fly - Protoplasa fitchii
Bonne Route, Northumberland County, New Brunswick, Canada

Don't know what this is. Wing pattern resembles a primitive crane fly but doesn't match the only eastern species (Protoplasa fitchii).

Moved from Crane Flies.

Wing pattern
Your fly's wing pattern is a pale version of the photo you linked, with the light brown areas more transparent.
