This spider was on my car. I'd been birding the edge of lake Erie. I was parked beside a woodlot that sits close to the lake.

What kind of spider is this?
What kind of spider is this?

This reminds us of the orb weavers
in the genus Larinia. We will try to find out for sure which species, but Jeff may know immediately. Meanwhile check it out in the guide and see what you think.

Yes! Thanks!
Sure looks like the Larinia directa in the guide. Excellent. Thanks so much, John and Jane.

Looks to be a male also
so we'll add that note.

Alright - it's a Boy
I'll have to do some more research to see what the female looks like. It's all rather impressive that things so tiny have been sorted, sexed and categorized. And for me, the greater miracle is that a curious sixty-year old with a camera - has access to this information with the tap of a few keys. What a universe. Again, thanks.
