Very nice nest shot! The species is Polistes instabilis. I see a male on the top right of the nest too.

Did you happen to get a picture of the entire nest? P. instabilis' nests are somewhat different in relation to most of the other Polistes spp. in the United States.

As soon as I send this response, I shall add a picture of the entire nest, which, indeed, is quite interesting. The reason I did not post the nest originally is that the picture is not well-centered. [One needs an obsessive-compulsive streak in this game!].

Looking at the enlarged version I can make out at least one male on the nest.
