ant mayhem - Lasius americanus

ant mayhem - Lasius americanus
Auburn, Cayuga County, New York, USA
June 18, 2018
I am looking to get info on this. I found this crazed grouping of ants on a grass stalk and am wondering if this part of a nuptial flight. Most of the ants are winged, but several are smaller and are not. They were moving about in a frenzied manner, running up and down the grass stem. Some appeared to be fighting. Can I get help with this? Thanks.

Moved
This is the brown Lasius species which flies at that time of the summer in most of eastern North America.
