railroad-worm - Phengodes plumosa

railroad-worm - Phengodes plumosa
Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
June 26, 2018
Size: 3 cm
A friend found this glow-worm crawling on the ground in her yard last night. It appears to be the larva of Phengodes plumosa, but since I've never seen one before, I'd like the ID confirmed. This is a way-cool bug!

Thanks so much for moving this glowworm to Phengodes plumosa, Hisserdude!I didn't realize that I had forgotten to move it after Steven had mentioned it was likely an adult female.

No problem!!
Happy to help! :)

Likely an adult female
Females are larviform and washed out in a yellowish color, and will have a semicircular slit underneath the last segment

Thanks so much for your input, Steven! That is very interesting that the female and larva form look so similar!
