Worker Field Ant with Beetle Grub - Formica subsericea - Female

Size: Ant: ~7 mm
Here's a testament to the amazing strength of Ants. This one was dragging a dead beetle grub across our garden path to it's nest. I set the camera on the ground to get the shot.

I'd venture the weight ratio is even higher than that. Ants certainly deserve their reputation for strength.
