Brown tubeworm moth - Acrolophus propinqua

Brown tubeworm moth - Acrolophus propinqua
Chilton County, Alabama, USA
June 27, 2018
This was a brown tubeworm type moth. His head was darker rusty brown and had a prominent tuft of scales, giving him a mohawk look. His antenna were straight and rope-like. His legs had long spikes and in the photo it appears that he has three spikes on the first joint in the front legs. His front legs were also a little darker. His lines were somewhat vague but he had two short dark brown lines extending posteriorly from his inner margin. He also had a dark brown orbicular spot in the PM area about halfway between the inner margin and costa. He had closely spaced dark brown notches around the costa. His fringe was brown.
