Size: around 2 inches
I found this in the middle of the city so I wouldn't be surprised if it's invasive.

Check the guide under genus Melanoplus....I don't know the species name but I have seen these through the Bay Area. They are native.

Melanoplus yarrowii
I'm not 100 % certain about this identification, since I'm not as familiar with the genus in California as elsewhere, but I'm pretty sure this is what it is. There are a few others that appear to be this species hiding on BugGuide.
