Urban barklouse - Peripsocus milleri

Urban barklouse - Peripsocus milleri
Noe Valley, San Francisco County, California, USA
June 30, 2018
Size: ca 2-3 mm
Not sure what the shiny structure over the anterior abdomen and thorax is - maybe a folded forewing? Collected.

This one is likely not ...
P. madidus, but P. milleri. The marking on the vertex is not right for madidus. Can't see the forewing marking clearly. My apologues.

This one is ...
Perisocud madidus.. possibly the most prevalent psocid in the USA!

Thanks -
Diane! This would be the first BG record west of Texas and it also doesn't fit with our BG range on the Info page. Is this introduced in CA? Thanks!

Do hang on to this one..
It looks like a peripsocid but there's something odd about the forewing venation. The "shiny thing" is probably a cell in the forewing with just the right angle to reflect light differently. I think it's fascinating how sometimes a certain angle of light will cause refraction (Is that the right term?) of light and result in purple ot other colors to appear.

Thanks -
Diane. It was slightly damaged during collection, but is in a vial and will be shipped off soon.
